Cyclamen for Descanso Gardens

Cyclamen (Cyclamen ) is a perennial growing from a tuber. There are several species available for the plant collector. The leaves are as showy as the blooms. Cyclamen usually bloom in spring, depending on species. Plant them under oak trees, camellias and other shrubs. Tubers of some species can get quite large and live for many years if conditions are right. Some smaller varieties are from mediterranian countries, and can be used in rock gardens. Most Cyclamen lose their leaves during dormancy - June through August. These are beautiful in pots, and do well displayed in the cool house.
